The New JN.1 Variant of Covid-19
Since 2019, every year is coming forth with a new strain of Covid-19 which is waving it’s red flag to the human civilization. Though vaccines are available nowadays and awareness campaigns are going on, yet people are facing death due to this deadly virus.
After Pirola, the new variant JN.1 is in headlines which is being detected in US, China and now India. The new strain with a single mutation in spike protein compared to Pirola or B.A.2.86, has been found in Karakulam, Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala recently. Though it is not so different fromthe Omicron strains with high transmissibility and mild symptoms, yet preventive measures must be taken to avoid being vulnerable or being at risk. Fever, runny nose, sore throat, gastro problems are among the symptoms that are being associated with this strain.

There is an approx 15 percent to 29 percent of JN.1cases in the United States. Though there is an increased infectivity and transmissibility of the JN.1, the symptoms of JN.1 are relatively mild.
So, like any other Covid strain, to prevent the spread of infection, we need to follow the all contact precautions like frequent hand washing, wearing mask, maintaining social distance and of course, vaccines are must. Panicking is not the solution but the prevention is.
