India’s longest sea bridge Atal Setu or Mumbai Trans Harbour Linkwas inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 January, 2023, Friday, by travelling on the sea bridge from INS Shikara on Colaba to Navi Mumbai.
This Atal Setu is 21.8 km long and it is now open for commuters. This setu will help to connect south Mumbai and Navi Mumbai more easily, cutting the journey short. Although it’s actual purpose will be released when the Sewri-Worli elevated corridor, the Eastern Freeway-Marine Drive tunnel, the proposed Chirle-Palaspe connection with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and the international airport in Navi Mumbai will be completed.
Through these precious projects Atal Setu graspable to people coming from different places. These projects will be overwithin five years and ensure that the western waterfront and the eastern waterfront of the island city are fully integrated with a web of tunnels and flyovers coming up in south Mumbai. The commuting speed in the Atal Setu will be 100km/hrand is expected to carry 70000 PCUs on a daily basis. This Setu will also enhance the connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
To make this sea bridge, an orthotropic steel desk, noise silencers, sound barriers and an earthquake resistance system had been used to give strength to this bridge. A debris management is also used so that the waste does not fall into the sea and affect the sea life. Let’s hope this new project of Indiawill achieve its goal sooner.
